Last July we went to Mammoth Lakes, California and we spent a week there backpacking around many frozen lakes and rivers beautiful landscape. We spent 2 days at a campsite to plan our route and to get our bear boxes, since we were in bear country. We hiked about 7 miles a day for a total of about 30 miles. We saw lots of beautiful landscape and saw plenty of wildlife. It was a very popular area so we did see many other hikers and backpackers, each night we did have a great campsite our to ourselves. 15 ventures and adults went on this trip, It was a great area to backpack and we all enjoyed it!

One of the great campsites we had.

One of the many rives we had to walk by or across.

Florida Sea Base!

During the last week in August our crew went on an adventure in Florida. We went on a 1 week trip to the Florida Keys, in that week we enjoyed snorkeling, deep sea fishing, delicious meals and fun in the sun. The first part of the trip we stayed in Ft. Lauderdale and enjoyed the beach and local entertainment. The next day we arrived at the Sea Base camp where we got our supplies, information on the plants and wildlife and met our crew guides.

After 2 days at the lodge we got in our giant canoes and paddles to our island. We spent a total of 4 days on the island and each day was filled with a new adventure we all enjoyed.
We got to explore the island and go fishing almost everyday.

Our day of deep sea fishing!

One of the ways of exploring!

We also had a little time to walk around Key West,
this is the End of The World.
90 miles to Cuba!

Bike Ride in Canyonlands

Hello all-

I am the new Historian for 9410, George Kounalis, This is my first post as historian. So on October 23-25 we went to Southern Utah for a biking trip. We enjoyed the 25 miles of dirt, rock, red sand, falling, and getting stuck in a canyon for half an hour waiting for your group. Among the way I learned personally getting scraped by slick rock hurts. I'm also pretty sure we had a good time with the Uranium shaft exposure. We also had a fun time with the delicious Dutch oven cooking. mmmmm.... I still can taste that pineapple chicken. Michael should become the Crew's main chef. Just kidding. I uploaded some pictures to see what we dealt with.

Uintas in August

This August we hiked to Carolyn lake from the Highline trailhead in the Uintas. We began Friday evening hiking to Scudder lake, about 2 miles from the trailhead. As we arrived it began to rain, and continued throughout the night as we set up camp and ate. The following morning was clear, though we began hiking late. Just a mile or two later it began to hail, then snow (as pictured at right). We barely reached Carolyn lake that afternoon just as the weather cleared. A few of us took an afternoon hike to Four Lakes Basin, while the rest remained at camp to fish and rest. The return trip Sunday was clear but muddy and rather long. A fabulous and unexpected weekend. See all the pictures here.
